A unique "Presentation" d/t steel mitre/rebate plane by NORRIS London measuring 13 1/2" x 2 1/4" with figured rosewood infill and adjustable handle, previously sold in Tony Murland's 2006 auction Lot 496 with the following description (which would be difficult to improve on!) In June 1941 an 18yr old apprentice cabinetmaker Mr L.F.Gillett of Stratford-on-Avon won first prize in the Amalgamated Society of Woodworkers (A.S.W.) annual competition. The prize was a steel mitre plane. The A.S.W. had commissioned the Norris factory to produce a totally unique plane. Norris exceeded themselves in this challenge and the result is an amazing, adjustable handled, rebating mitre plane marked NORRIS London Patent Adjustable. A silver plaque on the front of the plane is inscribed A.S.W. Apprentice Competition 1st Prize Bro. L.F.Gillett Stratford-on Avon 1941 The plane also exhibits two other features unique to previous Norris planes i.e. the combined handle and wedge is removed by loosening a brass knob, there is then the facility to adjust the handle laterally with a screw on the underside of the wedge. The handle can also be tilted by adjusting a screw at the base of the handle. A similar Norris plane was sold in our Catalogue No 52 Sept 2008 Lot 1075 for £16,000 These were the only two planes of this type produced by Thomas Norris F

An important and very rare, dated, early 17c German bronze block plane 4" x 1 1/2" profusely decorated overall with "lions head" feature protruding from the toe and dated 1632 around the heel. Provenance; this plane was displayed in the Musee des Arts Decoratifs, Exposition 1932 and later in the Michel Rullier Collection in France, a similar undated plane was sold for £5000 in England in 1988. This plane sold for £10500 in our catalogue No 56 Lot 417 in 2010 to an American collector G

A unique, important and very decorative 18c French/German strapped boarding axe the head in the form of an eagle , the 3 1/2" blade decorated with feathers on one side and the other with a gamekeeper trying to catch a pheasant, this axe was a centre piece in the magnificent John & Janet Wells collection for many years. An exceptional, little used, drawing set by J.A.REYNOLDS Birmingham c/w fitted tray of 24 German silver instruments, the lower tray with set of boxwood offsets, an ebony and brass rolling rule, a 2' four fold architects ivory rule with inside and outside bevel edges and German silver protractor hinge, a 6" ivory sector with protractor hinge and a scale rule all by Reynolds t/w a draughtsman's protractor, the drawer under with set of little used paints mostly still in orig wrappers c/w an early Reynolds 32 page catalogue with prices all contained in the orig nickel silver trimmed rosewood box, all contents, except the four fold rule, are original to the box F
